Letter from Vernon Porter

Hello, my name is Vernon Porter. On June 13 2010, my daughter, Vanessa Porter celebrated turning 22 years of age and also her 6th month of being clean and sober. I cannot tell you how proud I was of her and how much she had going for her.  Four days later, Vanessa became the victim of a preventable but all too common death. She overdosed on the prescription drug, Opana (a common prescription pain killer/opiate intended for stage 4 brain cancer). As with so many other accicental overdoses of Opana her death could have been avoided had a simple call to 911 been placed.
The person that gave her the drug panicked and left her to die.

While Vanessa’s spirit - what she had to offer this world, the love she gave to so many is completely unique and cannot be replaced; unfortunately, her tragic ending is all too common.

This crime against the very nature of humanity is being played out in the most affluent, educated, safe places in this country on a day-to-day basis. No child, regardless of their IQ, their parental or social upbringing, regardless of their friend set or bright future is free from becoming a victim, of having their short promising lives cut down by temporarily being in the wrong place at the wrong time or making a poor decision.

R4L is dedicated to preventing the tragedy that struck my family through early intervention and permanent recovery.

The day your child is born you want them to survive and lead a full life. That’s your primary goal from day one. No matter how difficult it has been, parents tend to think when their child has reached the age of 18, 20 or 22 that
surely
, they can survive and possibly even thrive.

You can easlily partner with us to spread the word on how much power we actually have together. By forwarding this letter to your e-mail list and posting on your social network and community forums you can help. Our sole purpose is to save the lives of youth through early intervention education and complete restoration.  Through our association with Committed Heart " a recognized 501c3 non-profit organization" all financial contributions are tax deductible. Immediate & Long Range Solutions

In a word: Short-term fixes cannot meet and beat the heart of addiction.

It is well known, that forming good habits early in life are fundamental to success later on when life become tough and we face crises. When the goal of success becomes immediate gratification or worse yet avoidance unfortunately, children suffer. There is no rhythm to their day, their week, their eating, their sleeping… they have been taught to “free fall” almost from birth. If adults are too busy or distracted to take the time to teach them. A television (with an agenda of it’s own) usually does that job.

Sooner or later crisis hits everyone. If we have nothing in the tank it's then we lose our Bio Psycho Social Cultural Spiritual Balance. This is soon followed by psycological trauma. It's at that point our coping mechanism or choices determine destiny.

Crisis can be defined as one’s perception or experiencing of an event or situation as an intolerable difficulty that exceeds the person’s current resources and coping mechanisms

Goal 1
Immediate Help for individuals and families in a crisis situation to restore equilibrium to their bio psychosocial functioning and to minimize the potential for trauma. (Prevent Premature Death)

Teaching Resiliency
A traditional response Fix=Fine
1) YOU got a problem
2) WE fix it
3) FOREVER you're fine

A Resiliency response for reality.
Coping + Choice = Consequence

Resiliency levels
1) Victim -- those who succumb and go under from the incidents
2) Survivor -- those who are alive but simply maintain from the incidents
3) Thriver -- those who grow stronger and more resilient from the incidents

The key factor is TIME.

Game Changer:
The "Porter Report" is specifically designed to be a game changer. By exposing the exploiters and bringing tools and information we can help stop dangerous events and activities like the following:
Teens and young adults are targeted by illegal drug cartels, prescription drug companies and events like the Electric Daisy Carnival which is described by the Los Angeles Times as a drug infested allnighter where high risk behaviors are sanctioned and where this 15 year old Sasha Rodriguez was killed after passing out from a drug overdose and being trampled by the crowd.

Call for immediate action:
HOW? By exposing the individuals, systems and organizations who knowingly or unknowingly exploit young people and their families. Our methods of exposing are Citizen Journalism, Community Organizing, Activism, Media & Broadcast.
